Saudi giants Al-Ittihad have reportedly opened talks with Mohamed Salah.

The constant Saudi links around Mohamed Salah feel like pure déjà vu for Liverpool supporters who have lived this saga for the best part of two summers now. Al Ittihad’s interest first exploded in 2023 and has rumbled on in the background ever since, but this time the timing – and the context – feels different.

Foot Mercato report that, after a turbulent December in which Salah publicly criticised his reduced game time and relationship with the coaching staff, the door to a departure has creaked open. It is claimed his agent has now opened talks with Al Ittihad and, crucially, that Salah is “much more open” to a move to Saudi Arabia than he was a year ago, having already secured one final extension at Anfield on the back of his stellar 2024‑25 season.

Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna has reported:

“According to our information, his agent is in talks with Al Ittihad, and unlike last year, Mo Salah is much more open to an arrival in Saudi Arabia. This could satisfy all parties. Liverpool would receive a transfer fee, and Salah would be at the origin of the decision.”

“Recall that Al Ittihad lost during the winter transfer window its two French stars Karim Benzema, who left for Al Hilal, and N’Golo Kanté, sold to Fenerbahçe, and that Fabinho is coming to the end of his contract next June. As for Moussa Diaby, he has been announced in the sights of Inter Milan. The Saudi club needs to strengthen itself to continue to play a leading role in the future. And with Salah, he would pull off the long-awaited big move.”

In particular, the “December incident” is cited as motivating factor for the proposed transfer with Salah’s airing of dirty laundry leaving a “mark”:

“While the December crisis has passed between Salah and Liverpool, it has still left its mark,” Aouna reasoned. “And a club will be able to take advantage of this since negotiations with the Egyptian international have already begun.”
