Arsenal are being linked with a move for the Premier League player at the end of the season
Arsenal had a quiet January transfer window in the end. They didn’t rush into any deals and decided to stick with what they have until the summer. The Gunners are hoping to win the Premier League title this season.
Mikel Arteta’s side are top of the tree ahead of Manchester City and Aston Villa after 25 fixtures. They won 3-0 at home against Sunderland last time out. Next up is an away trip to Brentford on Thursday night as they look to keep their momentum going.
Arsenal transfer update regarding Sandro Tonali at Newcastle United
According to talkSPORT, Newcastle United could demand between £80million and £100million for Arsenal target Sandro Tonali at the end of the campaign amid attention from elsewhere. The report adds that the Gunners are ‘monitoring’ his availability along with Manchester United and Manchester City. Juventus are also said to be keen on luring him back to Serie A.
Tonali, 25, is under contract in the North East until June 2029. Therefore, the Magpies are under no pressure to sell him anytime soon. They can wait for the right amount of money to come in for his signature before they consider cashing in.
The Italy international, who has 30 caps to his name, joined the Toon Army back in 2023. He has since made 93 appearances in all competitions, 36 of which have come this term, and he has scored seven goals. Prior to his switch to England, he played in his native country for Brescia and then AC Milan.
Would Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali suit Arsenal?
Arsenal could see Tonali as someone to boost their midfield department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth in the middle of the park. In addition, he could battle it out with the likes of Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi for a place in their starting XI.
Tonali's agent Giuseppe Riso has recently said: "Newcastle are having a hard time letting go of Sandro, and he wants to lead the club to the Champions League. These transfer discussions will take place later. We’ll see how the season ends and then we’ll decide what to do.
“There’s no preference at the moment. It’s still early. What we’re saying today won’t apply tomorrow. Newcastle couldn’t let him go now, and there’s no point in moving, especially since Sandro is very attached to the club. We’ll evaluate and decide what to do in the summer.”
Meanwhile, talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has weighed in and delivered his opinion: “I would be saying to you, you've got a contract that looks like you're staying with us until 2029, so shut your face and pack it in. I'd also want to be answering the question a little bit more comprehensively about who was offering who to whom.”
Arsenal could have done with landing Tonali last month. Mikel Merino is injured and his absence has left a void. Nevertheless, the Gunners remain in solid form and will be in confident mood ahead of their match against Brentford.
