Arne Slot is facing growing calls for his dismissal as his Liverpool side continue to stutter with new plans being put in place for his long-term future.

Slot’s side lost 2-1 to Man City last time out, and while the defeat is not seen as a concern in isolation, the Reds’ inconsistency is starting to become a problem.

Liverpool remain sixth in the Premier League table, four points behind Chelsea and five behind rivals Man United in the race for Champions League qualification.

Football Insider revealed on 9 February that Liverpool will “seriously question” Slot’s position if they fail to qualify for Europe’s premier competition next season.

Meanwhile, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Slot is in growing danger of being sacked after a “huge” drop from last season.

Liverpool make new Arne Slot sack plan

The reasons for Liverpool’s struggles have been made clear, with injuries and underperforming stars impacting their consistency and performances.

However, after winning the league last season, Liverpool being 17 points shy of league leaders Arsenal at this stage would have been considered “unthinkable” in the summer.

“*There’s always going to be talk about the manager,*” Brown told Football Insider.

“Fingers are being pointed at him because Liverpool haven’t been good enough, and that’s the way it works, if you’re not performing then questions will be asked.

“They don’t look anywhere close to the solid, consistent and threatening Liverpool side we’ve seen over the last few years, they’re miles away.

“There are definitely problems in this team that you could point to, but ultimately it’s the manager who has to pick up the bill for it all.

“If you told somebody at the end of last season that they’d be 17 point behind Arsenal at this stage, it would have been unthinkable.

“From a Liverpool perspective, that’s not good enough, and unless they can start to put some consistent performances and results together they’ll be in trouble.

“I think Slot has done a good job there, but it just feels like things are going wrong for him and he’s struggling to get things back under control.

“If results continue as they have been, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him go, which would have been crazy to say at the start of the season.”

Xabi Alonso whispers grow louder at Anfield

With pressure on Slot’s position growing, rumours about potential replacements are intensifying, with many calling for Xabi Alonso to be his replacement.

Football Insider revealed on 1 February that Alonso is a contender to replace Slot should Liverpool opt to make a change, with ongoing whispers about his position.

Alonso was sacked by Real Madrid following what has been a dismal season for the Spanish giants, but remains very highly-rated at Anfield.

Alonso is seen as a hugely favourable option at Anfield with a belief that the fans would also be in favour of the decision as large sections have become frustrated with Slot.

The Reds have won just six of their last 20 Premier League games, and despite their recent win and impressive Champions League form, questions are being asked.
