The Bucks only listened to trade offers on Giannis Antetokounmpo for this clever reason

It's been five days since the NBA trade deadline, and as we saw after the clock struck 3 p.m. EST on Thursday, Giannis remained with the Bucks.

This puzzled some people, as they held on to their star player just a week or two after it was revealed they would listen to trade offers on Giannis.

In the end, Giannis wasn't going to be traded, as it was revealed Milwaukee was listening to offers for a very specific reason.

The Bucks were in no rush to get a trade done before the trade deadline.

NBA insider Brett Siegel reported, "...The Bucks began listening to offers...with the intention of simply seeing what the market looked like, what teams would be interested, and gathering any bit of intel that could help them going into the summer."

After seeing how the last month played out, we still know there's a chance Giannis will be on a new team next season, but it appears it would have never happened at the deadline.

That's not to say the Bucks wouldn't have traded away Giannis if they got an offer that blew them away, but Milwaukee must have figured it's easier to get a variety of offers during the offseason, when teams can put together their best offer.

Reports during deadline week suggested that teams were in serious talks to try to acquire Giannis, but Siegel explained why that was, reporting, "At no point did the Bucks seriously consider trading Antetokounmpo, which is why many teams that thought they were in 'advanced discussions' for Giannis left the deadline feeling duped."

Siegel detailed that Giannis trade suitors would have had to "put everything on the table of what they were willing to give up."

It's frustrating for teams that tried inquiring about Giannis, but the Bucks did this to allow themselves to have a better idea of what the market looks like for Giannis entering this summer.
