The Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum participated in full five-on-five practice on Monday, working with rostered teammates, two-way players, and G League players. It marked an important moment in his recovery from a torn Achilles and the first time he competed in live action against teammates since the injury.

NBA insider ESPN Shams Charania shared details about the session and the process still ahead for Tatum.

"Well, the good news is that Jayson Tatum participated fully in his first 5-on-5 scrimmage with Celtics rostered players, two-way players, G-League players, not just coaches," Charania said. "So he participated fully in that 5-on-5 scrimmage on Monday. And everyone I spoke to with knowledge of Monday's practice told me Tatum looked great. And he's been ramping up."

"He has done 5-on-5 with coaches over the last 10 days, but it's different when you play your fellow teammates, two-way players, and G-League players. And he has been operating as a player who hasn't defined a viewing this season. There are still boxes for Jason Tatum to check. And at the end of all this, there's going to be about a dozen people gathering in a room and deciding and determining whether Jayson Tatum is 100% cleared medically and 100% cleared on a mental level."

Tatum continues to progress through the final stages of his rehab, but no clear return date has been set. The Celtics are being cautious, making sure the All-Star forward is fully ready both physically and mentally before he is cleared to play.

Before the injury, Tatum was coming off a strong 2024 25 season. He averaged 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game while shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 34.3 percent from three-point range. He remained the centerpiece of Boston's offense and one of the league's top two-way wings.

Despite missing their franchise player, the Celtics have stayed competitive. Boston holds a 34-19 record and sits second in the Eastern Conference, keeping itself in a strong position ahead of the playoff push.
