Leeds United cameback from two goals down to earn an unlikely 2–2 draw away at Chelsea on Tuesday, punishing the hosts’ late defensive frailties after seemingly out of the contest for more than an hour.
Daniel Farke’s side were second best for long stretches and trailed 2–0 after João Pedro and Cole Palmer had scored for Chelsea, but a Lukas Nmecha penalty and a late Noah Okafor equaliser turned the game on its head.
It was the very definition of a smash and grab: Leeds had just four shots to Chelsea’s 19 and scored with both of their efforts on target.

For the first hour, Chelsea looked like they were strolling to a comfortable win. Palmer was in sparkling form, drifting across the pitch to get on the ball and repeatedly finding space between Leeds’ midfield and defensive lines.
The opener came from exactly that area, with Palmer dropping into a pocket of space, receiving on the half-turn and threading a precise throughball for João Pedro, who lifted his finish over Karl Darlow to score.
That goal took João Pedro into double figures for the Premier League season (10), matching his best return in a single campaign (2024-25 with Brighton).
10 – João Pedro is just the fourth Brazilian to score 10+ goals in back-to-back Premier League seasons, after Roberto Firmino (4 from 2015-16 to 2018-19), Richarlison (2018-19/2019-20), and Matheus Cunha (2023-24/2024-25). Starring. pic.twitter.com/5JWBWZLmNJ

Chelsea doubled their lead just before the hour mark with a rather comical penalty after Jaka Bijol clumsily shoved João Pedro in the back as the striker chased a long ball. Palmer converted from the spot to make it 2–0.
Leeds were given a lifeline back into the match when they won a penalty of their own. Moisés Caicedo bundled into Jayden Bogle after he surged into the box, and Nmecha buried the spot-kick emphatically.
The goal didn’t exactly incite waves of Leeds momentum, but it sent real nerves through the home side. Leeds’ equaliser came via more Chelsea chaos. A long ball forward was not properly dealt with, and a scramble between Bogle, Josh Acheampong and Robert Sánchez left the goal unguarded for Okafor to roll into an empty net.
There was still time for Palmer to have a chance to win it all at the death, but the Englishman somehow spooned his finish over the ball with the goal gaping.
This game marks the first time since 21 October 2023 (against Arsenal) that Chelsea had led by two goals in a Premier League match and failed to go on to win. For all the positive work that Liam Rosenior has done still taking over, here was a reminder that Chelsea still have their unpredictable moments.
