Why VAR didn’t disallow Leeds’second goal vs Chelsea despite apparent handball

Stamford Bridge was left stunned in the final stages of Chelsea’s Premier League meeting with Leeds when they were pegged back from a very comfortable winning position.

The Blues were 2-0 up through Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer before Moises Caicedo’s clumsy challenge in the penalty area gave their opponents a way back into the game.

Noah Okafor was the benefactor of some comical defending from the Blues in the latter stages, although the players went straight to the referee to indicate their discontent at something in the build up.

Why Leeds’ second goal vs Chelsea wasn’t ruled out

Jayden Bogle appeared to handle the ball in the build-up to the goal, however VAR decided not to intervene on the incident.

The protests of the Chelsea players didn’t pay off, and now the Premier League Match Centre has revealed why no decision was taken.

They said: “The referee’s call of goal to Leeds United was checked and confirmed by VAR – with there deemed to be no handball offence by Bogle in the build-up.”

This brought no joy to Chelsea fans, who saw their side push for another late winner under Liam Rosenior late on.

Palmer was presented the perfect opportunity to score in added time, however somehow missed the target from bang in front of the goal.
