'That doesn't happen again': Liam Rosenior responds when asked about Cole Palmer's Chelsea miss vs Leeds

The scoreline is reading 2-2. Leeds United have come from two goals down to draw level with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Moises Caicedo breaks in on the right and puts the ball across the six-yard box.

Ask any Chelsea fan, ask Liam Rosenior, and even ask any Chelsea player for the one Stamford Bridge star they would want in that position, to tap the ball home. It would be Cole Palmer, Chelsea’s best player.

Palmer had already scored in the match to put Chelsea 2-0 up, after creating Chelsea’s opener. Joao Pedro netted once again since Liam Rosenior arrived, with Pedro benefiting from Rosenior’s appointment.

But Leeds came roaring back. Lukas Nmecha scored his second penalty for Leeds, before Noah Okafor came off the bench to make it 2-2 at Stamford Bridge. In injury time, Palmer had the chance to win it.

Palmer has been on fire. A hat-trick against Wolves, two assists against Napoli, a goal against Brentford, and this is all while the England star has a groin injury, a “horrible position” according to Alan Shearer.

Yet, when Caicedo flashed the ball across the six-yard box and Palmer was there to tap the ball home, he managed to blaze it into the Stamford Bridge crowd. A remarkable miss, and Rosenior commented on it.

“999 times out of 1000, he scores; it was just that one in that moment. We shouldn’t be in that position. The game should be done at 2-0. I need to show certain things to make sure that doesn’t happen again.”

Liam Rosenior misses out on Premier League record

Rosenior has made a stunning start to life as Chelsea manager, and the Blues have picked up result after result aside from the Carabao Cup semi-finals. Four Premier League wins in four, ahead of Tuesday night.

Chelsea fans – was Rosenior to blame, or was it the players? 😤

Chelsea failed to hold on to a 2-0 lead over Leeds.

But the draw against Leeds was Rosenior’s worst result as Chelsea manager. The first real shock, and the first game that Chelsea didn’t do what they were supposed to. Rosenior missed out on a league record.

Indeed, Rosenior would have become the second English manager to win his first five Premier League games. Instead, that record has faded away. Rosenior will have to regroup his players for Burnley.
