The Warriors were willing to offer Jonathan Kuminga, an unprotected 2026 first-round pick, and a lightly protected 2028 first-rounder for Trey Murphy III, but the Pelicans refused to move him without at least three unprotected picks.
The Golden State Warriors were among the three most aggressive teams pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo ahead of the February 5 trade deadline.

Once Giannis was ruled off the table, Golden State shifted its focus to the wing market in search of an immediate impact player, with New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III emerging as a primary target.
According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the two teams held multiple discussions, but league sources indicated that the Pelicans never wavered in their stance on Murphy, whom they view as a potential multi-time All-Star.
Golden State was prepared to offer a package centered around Jonathan Kuminga, an unprotected 2026 first-round pick, and a lightly protected 2028 first-rounder, per the same report.
However, while New Orleans did have some interest in Kuminga, they did not see him as a foundational piece for the future.

If the Pelicans were to consider moving Murphy to the Warriors, Siegel reported it would have required at least three unprotected first-round picks to offset what New Orleans viewed as "undesirable assets."
Ultimately, no deal materialized. Kuminga was later traded to the Atlanta Hawks alongside Buddy Hield in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis.
According to ClutchPoints, the Warriors were always prepared to move on from Kuminga and were unwilling to let his ongoing situation linger within the organization any longer than necessary.
