Joe Cole says Liam Rosenior needs to be stricter with£40m Chelsea star

Joe Cole believes Liam Rosenior must adopt a ‘firmer’ management style with Alejandro Garnacho to eliminate the ‘sloppy’ errors seen in the draw against Leeds.

Many would have thought that the Chelsea fans would be frosty towards Liam Rosenior after seeing their disappointment with Enzo Maresca’s departure.

However, it has been quite the opposite after hearing him speak and seeing some of the performances.

Chelsea have won seven out of 10 games and they’ve not really put in a complete performance yet, so the signs are very positive.

Even players like Liam Delap have praised and predicted big things for Rosenior, as many have noticed some positive differences between him and Maresca.

Time for Mamadou Sarr to be given a try, or why else did we bring him back?

Something needs to change defensively!

Liam Rosenior told to step up with Alejandro Garnacho

Alejandro Garnacho started well under Liam Rosenior against Arsenal, keeping them in the Carabao Cup semi-final tie by himself with a brace.

However, his performance against West Ham undid any credit he previously had with supporters. So much so that Garnacho was even booed at Stamford Bridge.

And Joe Cole feels as if Rosenior has to take a more hands-on approach with the former Man United man, when talking on TNT Sports.

“Let’s just say he’s been controversial throughout his career.

“I’ve played with players like that and you think the penny will drop when the penny will drop.

“If I was dealing with him, I would have really strict boundaries on the pitch, and off the pitch.

“Agree them with him, work with him, and just keep reminding him what a talented footballer he is.

“‘You stick within the boundaries and you keep developing yourself.”

Alejandro Garnacho needs to wake up

To improve at Chelsea, Alejandro Garnacho needs to adapt his street footballer style to the more structured, possession-heavy system favored by Liam Rosenior. Currently, the Argentine is struggling with the slow build-up play at Stamford Bridge, which often leaves him isolated against two defenders.

Statistically, his ball retention has been his biggest weakness; Garnacho lost the ball over ten times in a single half against West Ham, leading to being hooked.

To win back the crowd and his manager’s trust, Garnacho must improve his decision-making in the final third, specifically by knowing when to recycle possession rather than forcing high-risk dribbles.

Additionally, Rosenior needs to put his arm around him and tell him exactly what he wants.
