Karl-Anthony Towns makes unfortunate history in overtime loss to Pacers

Having won nine of their last 10 games heading into play Tuesday night, the New York Knicks seemed to be favorites on paper, facing the conference-worst Indiana Pacers at home.

New York has dominated at Madison Square Garden this year, entering the game with a 21-6 record at home, third best in the NBA.

That said, things didn't go as planned for the Knicks as they lost a tight game in overtime. Despite Jalen Brunson's 40 points, Pascal Siakam (30 points) and the Pacers ultimately prevailed in the extra frame, winning by a slim margin of three.

Although Karl-Anthony Towns finished with a double-double, racking up 22 points and 14 rebounds, he had a night to forget. Towns was just 1-for-6 from three-point range and committed five turnovers. Worst of all, the fouled out on an offensive foul call in overtime, missing the final two minutes of the game.

Although it can be tough to stay out of foul trouble, especially in overtime, Towns has struggled to play without fouling in his career.

Tuesday's game marked his 45th time fouling out in his career. To put things in perspective, no other active player has fouled out even 40 times.

Ariel Hukporti eventually came in to take his place, as Mitchell Robinson was inactive.

With the loss, New York fell to third place in the Eastern Conference, allowing the Boston Celtics to move ahead.

New York will be back in action Wednesday night, facing the Philadelphia 76ers away from home on the second night of a back-to-back.
