The excellent Matt Brown shares his thoughts on the Bison’s migration to the Mountain West and FBS football. He says this move has been rumored for most of the last decade, and now the challenge ahead is increasing their athletic budget by about $15 million a year to stay competitive with their new peers. Brown thinks the Bison can be competitive sooner rather than later, even if they won’t be immediately eligible for bowl and championship games.
The Athletic released their top 100 players for the NFL draft, and a few MW alumni are featured on the list. Chris Johnson is the highest player at #38, being billed as a great cover corner with sound mechanics. Then Kage Casey is all the way at 98th due to his blocking technique, play recognition, and strong hands. And right behind him is NDSU WR Bryce Lance, the younger brother of Trey Lance. Scouts like his hands, athleticism, and game production. All figure to be at least Day 2 picks.
Chris Murray is back at it this week after a big week of MW basketball. The top trio of Utah State, San Diego State, and New Mexico stay the same as last week, while Nevada and Grand Canyon flip places. Boise State remains in 6th despite beating two teams in front of them, but they get a nice write-up for their efforts. UNLV also holds steady, but Wyoming and Fresno State swap spots once again. Colorado State, San Jose State, and Air Force are still stuck at the bottom of the rankings.
