'I'd look at him': Gary Lineker puts forward former Chelsea manager for Tottenham job

Gary Lineker has weighed in on the rumours linking Enzo Maresca with the Tottenham vacancy, delivering a pointed assessment of whether the former Chelsea boss should return to management.

Enzo Maresca agreed to leave Chelsea after a disagreement with the medical department and a lack of control under the current ownership.

Chelsea’s owners had doubts over Maresca after the poor run of form, but it seems harsh to ignore the two pieces of silverware he secured in such a short space of time.

And there have already been links to a new job after Chelsea. Leicester City offered Maresca the job at the King Power Stadium and Man City have their eye on him too.

But Gary Lineker thinks that his next job in football should be at Tottenham after sacking Thomas Frank.

Gary Lineker wants to see Enzo Maresca at Tottenham

Speaking on The Rest is Football, Gary Lineker says he would hire Maresca if he was Tottenham.

“Someone like Maresca 20/1 with the bookies. I mean if I were Tottenham, I’d very much look at him even though he’s former Chelsea and they don’t like that kind of stuff, Tottenham fans possibly.”

Spurs fans have spent the last few years watching former Chelsea managers, from Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte to even a brief stint with the idea of others, trying to implement rigid, results-oriented systems that often ended in toxicity.

Was Enzo Maresca right all along?👀

Enzo Maresca wouldn’t dream of going to Tottenham

Whether Enzo Maresca would actually move to Tottenham remains a significant point of contention, because he is widely considered the preferred successor to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Maresca will be reluctant to jeopardise his status at the Etihad by taking a high-risk job in north London. Having left Chelsea just last month with his reputation enhanced by a Conference League and Club World Cup double, it’s all about making the smart decision.

Furthermore, Maresca’s preference for a slow, possession-heavy tactic clashes with Tottenham’s immediate need for a firefighter to rescue them from 16th place.
