CBS NBA Mock Draft has Hannes Steinbach landing in an excellent spot

The college basketball season isn't over, but the NBA Mock Drafts are already flying off the shelves. Steinbach is going to be a first-round pick; how high and where he lands will be the question. The latest [CBS Sports mock draft](https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/2026-nba-mock-draft-post-trade-deadline-giannis/) has him all the way up at pick No. 14 and going to the San Antonio Spurs.

This fit is intriguing because the Spurs have a superstar in Victor Wembanyama and are a first-place team in the Southwest. The Spurs are one of the top teams in the NBA, but would love to have another player to complement Wembanyama. CBS Sports says that the player is Steinbach.

Hannes Steinbach and Victor Wembanyama combining on the Spurs for NBA Championships?

The Spurs have the pick due to a trade with the Atlanta Hawks, which is why they get to be a top NBA team and yet still hold a lottery pick. Granted, it's the final lottery pick, but anything inside the top-15 almost assuredly gives a team an excellent, ready-to-go player.

Steinbach has significant NBA upside, as he's a double-double machine in college, breaking Huskies records and leading the Big Ten in double-doubles by a wide margin. These aren't cheap either; he can score from every level, and he knows how to box out guys even bigger than him.

He could still add to his frame and get a little bit bigger for the NBA level, but then again, guys like Wembanyama or even like a Kevin Durant are walking stick men and making NBA fortunes. Steinbach has a natural feel for the game and has often been the only player keeping the Huskies in games.

He's 6'11 and 229 pounds, and if the Spurs truly end up drafting him, he could play opposite Wembanyama, and the two players could help bring San Antonio another title.
