Luka Doncic has been off the court for the Los Angeles Lakers, dealing with a hamstring injury.
When the Lakers faced the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night, the Slovenian star missed his third game in a row.
LA head coach JJ Redick had a positive update on Doncic, claiming that the star guard is progressing in his recovery. However, the timeline is still set at day-to-day, as the Lakers approach the NBA All-Star break.
Is Luka Doncic Playing in Lakers-Mavericks on Thursday?
It’s too early to tell if Doncic will get a chance to return before the All-Star break.
By placing him on a day-to-day timeline, Redick saves himself from having to offer a definitive date regarding the guard’s return. When Doncic is ready, the Lakers will roll him out. He gets a day in between games to figure out what kind of shape he’s in.
The absence of Doncic has had a clear effect on the Lakers. Although they took care of business against the Golden State Warriors at home on February 7 with a 105-99 win, they suffered losses against the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs.
Wednesday’s game was a shorthanded blowout against the Spurs. The Lakers dropped the ball with a 136-108 loss. They are now 32-21 on the season.
On Thursday, the Lakers will host Doncic’s former club, the Dallas Mavericks. The sharpshooter’s injury status will come into focus soon enough, as the Lakers prepare for their pre-break battle. If Doncic doesn’t return this week, his next chance will be for the Lakers’ February 20 matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers.
