A mother has gone viral for sharing her young daughter’s reaction to the Super Bowl halftime show-and why she was disappointed with Bad Bunny‘s performance.
Author Mari Kane is mom to five-year-old Eliana Maughan, who has been a long-time fan of the Puerto Rico musician, who recently made history for his performance at the 2026 Super Bowl.
While his halftime extravaganza sparked a major conversation, with some praising the performance and others-like President Donald Trump-criticizing it, Maughan had a unique outlook on the show.
As mom Kane told Newsweek: “She was born in Miami so she grew up listening to Bad Bunny on the radio…when it’s her turn to request a song she asks for Yo Le Llego or Mojaita.”
Her admiration of the artist is also helped by one major thing, Kane added: “Her favorite animal is also a bunny.
“Instead of dolls, she has always had bunnies. So naturally, Bad Bunny is her fave!”
On the night of the Super Bowl, Maughan “begged to stay up to see the half time show,” and was allowed to-but her mother was shocked when she appeared “very underwhelmed after.”
And the reason why has led Kane and her daughter to go viral, after she posted the interaction to her Threads account, @marikanewrites, which racked up more than 11,000 likes.
She wrote: “My 5yo expressed disappointment in the halftime show. I was surprised by this because she LOVES Bad Bunny. She doesn't speak Spanish but she will sing along to many of his songs. Anyways, I asked her why and she said, ‘I thought he would look more like a bunny.'”
Threads users were in stitches, with one commenter describing it as “the only fair criticism of the half time show.”
“Nobody is perfect,” another joked, while one called it “so adorable.”
And one parent shared their own story: “My kid had a similar incident at 3 when they were having a ‘turkey dinner’ at preschool and came home crying because they thought that a turkey was coming to have dinner with them.”
Kane told Newsweek that her daughter is “still unhappy about it when you ask,” but “she is still singing along to his songs on the way to school in the morning, so I think he is forgiven!”
