Former Suns player cut from NBA days after Phoenix traded him away

The Phoenix Suns made one move at the trade deadline, bringing in both Amir Coffey and Cole Anthony from the Milwaukee Bucks in what was essentially a cost saving measure.

Coffey made his debut with a 13 minute cameo in the win over the Dallas Mavericks recently, while Anthony is unlikely to ever play for the franchise.

Nigel Hayes-Davis already cut from Milwaukee and NBA

Of the two players the Suns sent out, Nick Richards has already found a home and some minutes with the Chicago Bulls.

Spare a thought for Nigel Hayes-Davis however, who has been cut by the Bucks and is unlikely to feature in the NBA ever again.

The 31-year-old joined Phoenix to much fanfare last offseason, although we're not afraid to admit that we most certainly got that one wrong.

He appeared in only 27 games, managing 7.2 minutes in the process, but it was clear from the jump that this was not going to be the roster that most believed it would.

Rather than be stuck to the bottom of the Western Conference and have a first time head coach in Jordan Ott who struggled with the steep learning curve, the Suns are in the thick of the playoff action.

Hayes-Davis was supposed to be the veteran who could warn the younger players on this roster on how quickly things can change having spent so long in Europe, but that wasn't needed either.

Instead he's likely heading back to Europe, although already he is rumored to be in the running for what would be a massive contract should that happen.

You can't hate on Hayes-Davis either, he saw one final opportunity to make it in the NBA and he took it. On paper the situation seemed ideal too.

But it was never going to happen for him in The Valley, and talk of him taking some of Kevin Durant's minutes and attempting to be a stretch four who could score some were well wide of the mark.

It also didn't help that former teammates like Collin Gillespie, Grayson Allen and even Royce O'Neale have ended up having career years.

Add Jordan Goodwin and Jamaree Bouyea, a pair of point guards who weren't even on the roster when Hayes-Davis joined, into the mix, and the odds were against Hayes-Davis from the start.

Hopefully he can return to a European powerhouse, be one of the best players in the league there again and make a ton of money in the process. The ending he deserves after a reality check back in the NBA.
