CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - All four players who were ejected from Monday night’s basketball game between the Charlotte Hornets and Detroit Pistons have been suspended by the NBA.

The players were ejected after a brawl broke out in the middle of the third quarter of the Feb. 9 matchup.

From the Hornets, Moussa Diabate and Miles Bridges were ejected. From the Pistons, Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart were ejected.

Diabate and Bridges were both suspended for four games “for fighting and escalating the altercation,” according to the NBA.

Duren was suspended two games “for initiating the altercation and fighting.” Stewart -- who was not in the game when the brawl broke out -- was suspended seven games for “leaving the bench area, aggressively entering an on-court altercation and fighting.”

The suspensions took effect immediately.

Here’s what happened

Monday’s fight came as the Hornets were locked into a tight game with the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons.

Charlotte -- who was on a nine-game win streak -- got off to a strong start but went into halftime down 61-57. The Hornets retook the lead early in the third quarter, only for the Pistons to take it right back.

With all the back-and-forth to start the third quarter, it didn’t take long for tensions to rise.

Charlotte’s Diabate fouled Detroit’s Duren while Duren was shooting. The initial foul did not seem like anything out of the ordinary on replay but the two did bow up at each other afterward. During the bowing up, Duren took his own hand and placed his palm squarely over Diabate’s face.

Diabate and his teammate Bridges took offense to Duren’s action and that’s when the melee started. Diabate threw some punches in the direction of Duren while players and staff from both teams tried to hold him back.

Bridges at first seemed to have escaped the worst of the fight, only for Pistons player Isaiah Stewart to come off Detroit’s bench. Bridges also then threw a punch as a second skirmish broke out on the other side of the court. A replay of the fight can be watched at the bottom of this story.

By the time the dust settled, Diabate and Bridges were ejected for Charlotte while Duren and Stewart were tossed for Detroit.

Later in the game -- in a completely unrelated incident -- Hornets head coach Charles Lee was ejected after he vehemently argued a foul call. Lee, too, had to be held back.

The Pistons went on to win 110-104, and ended the Hornets’ win streak.
