NBA announces major suspensions for players involved in Pistons-Hornets fight

Tensions from Monday night’s heated clash between the Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets have now spilled beyond the hardwood. Now, the NBA has delivered its response with suspensions.

The league office announced major suspensions for the players involved in the Pistons-Hornets fight and signalled a firm stance on maintaining discipline as both teams navigate a critical stretch of the season.

The altercation broke out in the third quarter of Monday’s game after a foul led to tension between Jalen Duren and Moussa Diabate. The two exchanged words and stood face to face before Duren pushed Diabate away. Diabaté reacted by throwing a punch and lunging toward him.

Coaches and arena security quickly stepped in to separate the players. But Diabate briefly slipped past them before being restrained again. As the situation escalated, Miles Bridges approached Duren and threw a punch that missed. Duren responded with a swing of his own as teammates and staff worked to restore order.

And now, the NBA has handed down multiple suspensions following the incident, with Isaiah Stewart receiving a seven-game suspension. Miles Bridges and Moussa Diabate were each suspended for four games, while Jalen Duren was given a two-game suspension.

Stewart has built an unfortunate track record of suspensions across his six-year NBA career, and the latest incident only adds to that reputation.

On November 21, 2021, he clashed with LeBron James after taking a hit to the face during a rebound battle. Stewart attempted to confront the Lakers’ star and was suspended for two games.

In February 2024, he was arrested in Phoenix after punching Drew Eubanks, resulting in a three-game suspension, though the charge was later dropped. In January 2025, a flagrant foul on Thomas Bryant led to another suspension. Two months later, altercations involving Donte DiVincenzo and Naz Reid earned him two more games. Monday’s brawl was simply the latest chapter.
