Nike SB’s Retooled Air Force 1 Gets an Early Release in L.A. for NBA All-Star Weekend

Another classic Nike sneaker is getting some work done under the trunk in the name of skateboarding.

The Nike SB Air Force 1 Low follows the lead of the Air Jordan 4 and Air Max 95 in being reappropriated by Nike’s skateboarding line. Extra padding has been added around the ankle, while the shoe’s overall build has been shortened. While not unprecedented, suede is used for the upper in the name of greater flexibility, and the requisite branding swaps have been made on the tongue, mustache and lace dubrae.

A mix of “Light Orewood Brown” and “Pink Foam” is used for the SB AF1‘s debut colorway, the latter of which dresses the bulk of the upper. Pink is then used for the leather mustache and an insole with a dotted spiral pattern. A white midsole sits atop a gym outsole with another pop of pink hosted near the medial heel.

The Air Max 95 joined late last summer and now boasts a total of three colorways including an Eric Koston collab, although complaints about quality have dulled the excitement.

Charles Barkley’s CB34 Low will also undergo a shift to SB through a Supreme collaboration expected in the spring.

The Nike SB Air Force 1 Low “Light Orewood Brown/Pink Foam” is getting an early release Wednesday for NBA All-Star Weekend at the Los Angeles skate shop Kingswell. Pairs are being made available on a first-come, first-serve basis for $120, and a wider release is anticipated later this spring.
