Bronny James’ second NBA season has been a whirlwind thus far.
From going back and forth between the NBA and G-League to struggling to make a noticeable impact when JJ Redick calls his name in the big leagues, the 21-year-old Los Angeles Lakers guard hasn’t had the smoothest 2025-26 campaign.
However, the USC product has had its moments, and an alarming stat about James outplaying a former No. 1 overall pick in his last four games suggests things may not be as bad as they seem.
“2024 draftees over the four games: 1st pick (Zaccharie Risacher); 28 points, a 32.4% field goal percentage, a 27.8% three-point shooting, and 33.3% free throw percentage), 55th pick (James); 28 points, a 57.9% field goal shooting percentage, a 80% three-point shooting percentage, and a 66.7% free throw shooting percentage," Statmuse stated on X/Twitter.
While James and Risacher have both recorded 28 points in their last four outings, it’s clear that James has been the more efficient player recently. James’ most impressive performance during that stretch came against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night.
With Austin Reaves, LeBron James, and Luka Doncic sidelined with injuries, the former second-round pick had a golden opportunity to impress on both ends. While the Spurs secured a 28-point win against the Injured-Lakes, James recorded 12 points, six assists, three rebounds, and one block in 25 minutes.
The sample size is small, but James play has been encouraging, to say the least.
