Warriors make stance clear on parting ways with Steve Kerr, per report

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is in the final year of the two-year, $35 million contract extension he signed with the franchise in February of 2024.

Once the 2025-26 season concludes, the Warriors must decide if it would be worthwhile to keep Kerr in the Bay. According to a report from ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, Golden State has made its stance clear on parting ways with Steve Kerr in the offseason.

“All of the talk about the franchise not wanting him back is simply false, and there is nothing to suggest that Kerr’s coaching staff or the Warriors have been preparing for this to be his last season,” Siegel wrote Tuesday.

“The Dubs would like Kerr to continue coaching as long as he wants, and sources said the idea has always been for Kerr and Curry to retire together.”

Winning four championships will undoubtedly increase a coach's job security moving forward. Although Kerr hasn’t guided the Warriors to a title since 2022, his track record as the head coach/success alongside Curry have kept him safe.

Did Kerr fail to maximize Jonathan Kuminga’s potential in the Bay? Absolutely. Are Kerr’s rotations questionable at times? Without a doubt.

That said, the accomplished former Chicago Bulls guard has earned the right to continue coaching the seven-time NBA champions until Curry calls it quits and a new era of Warriors basketball begins.
