Thomas Frank’s tenure at Tottenham has come to an end after just eight months. Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle — who had been winless in their previous five matches — proved to be the final straw.
Spurs remain without a Premier League win so far this calendar year. Fans expressed their frustration, booing the team at both half-time and full-time.
Frank had taken over in the summer, replacing the popular Ange Postecoglou, after a successful seven-year spell leading Brentford. “The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today,” a statement said.
“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together. However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.
“Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”
Tottenham will consider interim options following Thomas Frank’s sacking, with a permanent appointment likely in the summer. Former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane has been shortlisted for the role on an interim basis.
He recently extended his contract at Ferencvaros, who are currently top of the Hungarian league and in the Europa League knockout stage. They will take on Ludogorets next week.
According to the Daily Mail, former Liverpool assistant boss John Heitinga, who joined Frank’s coaching staff last month, is also being considered as a short-term solution.
Heitinga left Liverpool to manage Ajax but was sacked after less than six months. Spurs are expected to make a decision in the coming days. Should Heitinga be appointed, several of Frank’s staff, many of whom came with him from Brentford, are expected to leave, requiring a restock of coaching positions around him.
