The Green Bay Packers recently lost quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion, as he joined the Philadelphia Eagles to be their offensive coordinator.
Fortunately, the Packers had an in-house replacement that made all the sense in the world. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Wednesday that Green Bay has promoted senior offensive assistant Luke Getsy to be its new quarterbacks coach.

The Packers are naming Luke Getsy their quarterbacks coach, sources say.
After offensive coordinator stints with Chicago and Las Vegas, Getsy returned to Green Bay last year as a senior assistant and now replaces Sean Mannion, who left for the Eagles OC job.
The Packers did interview Arizona Cardinals passing game specialist Connor Senger for the position, but that was likely just to satisfy the Rooney Rule. Ultimately, the decision to promote Getsy made too much sense for Green Bay to pass on.

Getsy and Love already have a deep connection, as Getsy was Love’s first QB coach when Love entered the NFL back in 2021. Of course, Love was Aaron Rodgers‘ backup that season, but Getsy help lay the foundation for Love’s development.
Getsy served as the Packers’ QB coach from 2019 to 2021, as well as the passing game coordinator. Rodgers won back-to-back MVPs in 2020 and 2021 under Gety’s tutelage. Love started one game as rookie in 2021 and played admirably, throwing for 190 yards and one touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Love has since developed into one of the league’s better quarterbacks, but isn’t quite considered in the elite category yet. Although his passing yards and touchdown totals were down a bit, Love set a career low in interceptions thrown last season with just six, and career high 66.3 percent completion percentage.
Focusing in on the QB is what Getsy does best

Getsy’s roots with the Packers go all the way back to the 2014 season, when he was hired by then coach Mike McCarthy as an offensive quality control coach. He was then promoted to wide receivers coach in 2016. Getsy briefly left Green Bay in 2018 to join the college ranks at Mississippi State as offensive coordinator, but returned one year later.
Getsy departed from the Packers again following the 2021 season to become the new offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears under coach Matt Eberflus. Getsy was not retained after Eberflus was let go after the conclusion of the 2023 season, but he landed on his feet with the Las Vegas Raiders in the same role.
However, the Raiders’ offense struggled to get anything going during the 2024 season, and Getsy was fired after a 2-7 start. He was quickly brough back to Green Bay by coach Matt LaFleur, where he spent the final few weeks of the season as a defensive consultant. Getsy was then given a full-time role as a senior offensive assistant for the 2025 season.
Getting back to being the QB coach will be a nice reset for Getsy. If he can boost Love’s game and make him a legitimate MVP candidate, Getsy could get another look as an offensive coordinator from another team. He will also have backup quarterbacks Desmond Ridder and Kyle McCord to work with.
