Though it sounds too crazy to be true, Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald took a shot at internet comedian Druski during this Wednesday's championship parade.
The Seahawks celebrated their Super Bowl LX victory over the New England Patriots by throwing a trophy celebration inside Lumen Field. The champions then took their party to 4th Avenue and Washington St.
"Gates to the ticketed Trophy Celebration at Lumen Field will open at 8:30 am and the event will commence at 10 a.m. (PT)," the Seahawks said, via the team's website. "Following the Lumen Field event, the parade will commence at 11 a.m. at 4th Avenue and Washington St, traveling northbound on 4th Avenue and ending at 4th Avenue and Cedar St. The route of just over two miles through Downtown Seattle is expected to take two hours."
During this afternoon's trophy celebration, Macdonald got on the mic and delivered this message about Seahawks wide receiver Jaxson Smith-Njigba: "Put some respect on that man's name."
This message from Macdonald didn't come out of nowhere. Six days ago, Druski butchered Smith-Njigba's name while announcing the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year at the "NFL Honors."
Clearly, Macdonald didn't appreciate Druski's lame attempt at mocking Smith-Njigba's name.
Druski facing serious backlash.
Earlier this week, former Fox Sports personality Emmanuel Acho ripped Druski on his "Speakeasy" podcast. He didn't appreciate the way he pronounced Smith-Njigba's name.
"Shoutout to what you've done and what you've built in your career. I believe you're the best one doing it right now. But know the time and the place. And when it's Jaxon Smith-Njigba's time and it's Jaxon Smith-Njigba's place, then just say his name right, fix your face, and keep it moving. And what ran me hot about that is like, Druski, that moment was not about you," Acho said, via Awful Announcing.
"And also, names carry weight. Names are significant. Especially family names. Names are powerful. And you want to take the time at the Super Bowl to now decide you know what, I'm gonna get a joke off. I'm gonna have a viral moment. We spent so much more time talking about Druski mispronouncing his name than we spent talking about the actual player who dominated the game. That makes no sense to me. And also, you know it was an intentional joke that fell flat because he said his name right first and then proceeded to say his name wrong and get all his hahas and hehes out of the way."
At the end of the day, Smith-Njigba got the last laugh. Not only did he finish the season with 1,793 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, he captured his first Super Bowl ring.
