The Seattle Seahawks held their Super Bowl 60 victory parade Wednesday, celebrating their win over the New England Patriots with a ceremony that featured a defiant speech by linebacker Ernest Jones aimed squarely at the team’s critics.
When the parade reached its terminus at Lumen Field, their home stadium, Seahawks players and executives gave speeches. Jones was tapped to address the crowd assembled at the stadium.
Jones, who joked that he was the last person the team should have given the microphone to at the ceremony, shared his feelings with the packed stadium.
“Not only do we have the best defense in the world, we’ve got the best team in the world,” Jones said. “Quite frankly, if you got anything to say about my quarterback, you got anything to say about my defense, you got anything to say about our O-line and you got anything to say about the city of Seattle, I got two words for you: (Expletive) you.”
Jones’ teammates appeared to like the message, as they all began jumping around, hyped up by what he said. The crowd also let out a huge cheer. Jones played a big role in the Seahawks’ success this season. He led the Seahawks in tackles this season (126) and was also strong in coverage, nabbing five interceptions.
His performance carried over to the Super Bowl, where he finished with a game-high 11 tackles and a tackle for loss.
