Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes gets ultimate bulletin board material after QB rankings

The 2025 season for the Kansas City Chiefs was a dumpster fire that only got worse when Patrick Mahomes suffered an ACL injury against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15.

Things just never truly got going for the Chiefs, as injuries, poor play, costly penalties and uncharacteristic mistakes plagued Kansas City all year.

And as for Mahomes, he had one of his worst seasons in recent memory, as he struggled to be the difference-maker we have become accustomed to him being over the years.

For NFL.com's Nick Shook, in ranking all starting 63 quarterbacks from the 2025 season, Patrick lands all the way down at No. 13.

"Patrick Mahomes tried his best, but even he couldn't save the Chiefs from their demise in 2025," Shook wrote. "The devil was in the details for much of the season, and when the margin for error shrunk late, Mahomes' struggles increased, as evidenced by the 5-7 TD-INT ratio he posted from the start of November through his unfortunate season-ending ACL injury in Week 15."

Will Mahomes return for Week 1?

Going by everything we heard prior to the Super Bowl, Patrick's plan does appear to be to be ready to play in Week 1.

Granted, coming back from an ACL injury, we often see players who aren't themselves physically or mentally in the first few months back, so the Chiefs will be cautious with Mahomes.

It is admirable that he wants to return so quickly, but we have heard several others say he should sit out the entire 2026 season to focus on his health.

We know that likely won't happen, but Patrick's made it clear about his intentions, and in 2026, according to Shook, he'll start the year as the 13th-best quarterback in football.
