Tight end AJ Barner scored the game’s first touchdown early in the fourth quarter to give the Seahawks a 19-0 lead, however, the 16-yard catch almost didn’t happen.

“His touchdown was almost a disaster,” Seahawks receiver Cooper Kupp said on the New Heights podcast. “There was a problem. We called the play … The formation was backwards to what the play call was. I see AJ running toward me, and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m about to run the wrong route,’ so I change it on the fly.

“We almost had a complete disaster … He might not even know that I almost ran right into him. Literally at the snap, I was like, ‘I have to fix this.’”

Barner, in fact, did not know about the almost-collision.

“I just caught wind of that,” Barner later said on New Heights.

Replays of the touchdown show Barner and Cupp missing each other by just a foot on the 10-yard line as they made their crossing routes.

A video also surfaced on the NFL’s X page of Seahawks safety Julian Love, proving that his fourth-quarter interception was simply a matter of time.

“Classic young quarterback,” Love is heard saying on the game’s sidelines to fellow Seahawks safety Coby Bryant. “As soon as that back foot hits, (Patriots quarterback Drake Maye) is going to where he wants, but he’s pausing for a second to confirm that he’s open. He’s not as blindly doing it like (Rams quarterback Matthew) Stafford. There’s a little hitch there.”

Love’s interception came with 8:49 left in the game off Maye’s pass attempt to receiver Kyle Williams. It was returned for 35 yards.

The Seahawks hosted the Super Bowl trophy ceremony and parade on Wednesday, bringing an estimated one million 12s to downtown Seattle to celebrate.
