Seahawks might have $14 million problem after Super Bowl win

The Seattle Seahawks are currently enjoying their Super Bowl win, but the NFL moves fast, and free agency will be upon us in a few weeks.

The big-ticket item for Seattle is going to be running back Kenneth Walker.

After a stellar postseason that culminated with a Super Bowl MVP trophy as he gashed the New England Patriots on the ground to the tune of 135 rushing yards, Walker's price only went up.

And that might be a problem for Seattle.

As CBS Sports' Jonthan Jones states, there are a couple of avenues the Seahawks can go down with Walker.

“It's no exaggeration to say he earned himself millions this postseason,” Jones wrote. “The Seahawks have plenty of cap space, but both sides may struggle to immediately agree on an extension after this playoff burst.

“Has he earned a Josh Jacobs- or James Cook-type deal worth $12 million per year? Or does GM John Schneider opt for the one-year, roughly $14 million tag? Either way, after the past few weeks, there is little doubt Walker will remain in Seattle.”

What will Seahawks do?

Well, after witnessing what Walker did in the playoffs and how much of a driving force he was for Sam Darnold and the offense, there's little reason not to think a deal will be worked out, right?

Especially with Zach Charbonnet dealing with an ACL injury that will likely sideline him for most of the 2026 season. So, Seattle will need a lead back -- enter Walker.

Money will be the key sticking point as it always is.

Will a James Cook-like offer be forthcoming? Or something higher?

Either way, Walker has deserved his incoming pay rise, and I bet he'll still be a Seahawk for a long time to come.
