The Cavaliers, Warriors and two anonymous teams could be in play to sign LeBron if the four-time MVP ultimately part ways with the Lakers after this season.
In his recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, ESPN's Brian Windhorst offered an intriguing perspective about the potential next destinations of LeBron James should he leave the Los Angeles Lakers after this season.
For the longtime LeBron chronicler, four considerable teams can serve as landing spots for the superstar. The Cleveland Cavaliers are undoubtedly on the list.
"There’s a good chance it would be his last year. He certainly has to go into it with a strong possibility that it would be his last year, so he has to go to a place where he could be comfortable playing a year," Windhorst said, "I think there are a couple of places where that might make sense, and Cleveland is one of them."
Many have been fantasizing already about another reunion between James and the Cavs. Past reports suggest the Cavs will be fully willing to welcome LeBron home, and that both Donovan Mitchell and new franchise star James Harden will attempt to recruit him.
Another team, according to Windhorst, is the Golden State Warriors. Poised to clear a significant cap space in the upcoming offseason, the Dubs were reportedly eyeing to go after James and Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
"Golden State, depending on how things go, would be one of them, depending on where their team is," Windhorst noted.
And lastly, Windhorst stated that there are also two secret teams, but he didn't elaborate further.
"I have a team or two that I think he could consider going to. And I have researched the concept. I will continue to keep my eye on the concept, keep digging, and let’s just say that it’s not without merit. It’s just not something I’m going to say, and I don’t mean to be a jerk that way," Windhorst said.
James holds an expiring $52.6 million player option, which he exercised for this season.
Rumors circulate that both he and the Lakers are set to part ways following this year.
