Virgil van Dijk’s second-half header saw Liverpool end Sunderland’s unbeaten Premier League run at home with a 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light. The Reds picked up a huge three points as they put the disappointment of Sunday’s defeat to Manchester City behind them.
Victory for Liverpool – only their second in the league in 2026 – helped them cut the gap to fifth-placed Chelsea to two points. That came as a result of their win in North East and the fact Liam Rosenior’s side threw away a 2-0 lead against Leeds United to only end up with a point on Tuesday night.
Manchester United also dropped points as they were held by West Ham United, but Aston Villa scored late to secure a much-needed 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion. And we have taken a look at the upcoming Premier League games for the sides in the hunt for Champions League football next season.
