While the Minnesota Vikings made a change at the general manager level, they didn’t shuffle much of the coaching staff. Chris Kuper was the only notable coach not given a contract renewal, and that mean Kevin O’Connell was largely determined to run it back.
Brian Flores got the bag to return, but many assistants were just expected to assume the status quo. With other opportunities being presented for some, multiple assistants left for greener pastures.
Although many of the vacancies across the league have been filled at this point, a few key spots are still open. On Wednesday night yet another Vikings coach was poached for one of them.
Tony Sorrentino leaves MN Vikings for Arizona
When coaching Minnesota Vikings wide receivers, you get to work with the best in the world. Justin Jefferson is the top player at his position, and Jordan Addison is a star too. Tony Sorrentino will be tasked with turning Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson into even a shred of that.
The Arizona Cardinals are hiring Minnesota Vikings Assistant WRs coach Tony Sorrentino as their WRs coach.

Sorrentino was given an opportunity to be the guy by the Arizona Cardinals. As an assistant for the MN Vikings, he has worked behind Keenan McCardell. Vikings wide receivers have pounded the table to keep their top coach around, and Sorrentino helped to work with the position as well.
This was Sorrentino’s fourth season working with the Minnesota Vikings. Before joining the organization, he spent three years at the collegiate level working with Northern Illinois.
The Cardinals used the 4th overall pick on Harrison Jr. in 2024. He was a flop as a rookie while struggling to haul in passes. Year two saw him struggle with injuries, but he did record 608 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games. Sorrentino would certainly love to take him to the next level.
Cardinals could provide MN Vikings problems for Sorrentino
This season Sorrentino had a front row seat to the mistake that was banking on J.J. McCarthy. He’s now headed to Arizona where Kyler Murray plays, but that may not be for long either. The talented veteran is a logical trade candidate, and Minnesota could be a fit.
Over the next month, the Minnesota Vikings will need to make some serious decisions regarding the quarterback position. For now McCarthy will be back, but certainly involved in a competition. It’s possible someone like Murray is acquired and he’s all but certainly pushed to the bench.
While Sorrentino won’t speak into significant roster decisions, who is throwing his wideouts the ball dramatically impacts the likelihood he’ll have for success. After watching McCarthy last year, he’ll be hoping whatever the answer is remains drastically better.
