Mavericks not for sale amid Mark Cuban buyback rumors

Per Marc Stein, the Adelson and Dumont families are fully invested about maintaining their Mavericks majority ownership.

The Dallas Mavericks won't be up for sale despite recent chatter regarding Mark Cuban.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, a close source to Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont has noted that “the team is not for sale and the (Adelson and Dumont) families look forward to expanding their ownership stake over time.”

“The Dumont and Adelson families remain fully committed to the Dallas Mavericks’ franchise and to the Dallas community. They remain focused on building a championship organization for the long term," the source told Stein.

Buzzes began swirling across Dallas as Stein previously reported that a group of unidentified Dallas investors is interested in teaming up with Cuban about purchasing the Mavericks franchise from the Adelsons.

Despite this, one source indicated that the Dumont and Adelson families are fully compelled in maintaining their long-term hold on the Mavericks as the Cooper Flagg era has kicked off.

“I get asked fairly often if I would be part of a group if they could buy the team. I tell them all the same thing: I don’t see the (Dumont and Adelson families) selling,” Cuban told The Dallas Morning News' Brad Townsend.

In December 2023, Cuban sold the Mavericks to the Adelson family for $3.5 billion. Patrick Dumont, Miriam Adelson’s son-in-law, assumed the role of team governor. Cuban stayed on as a minority owner, retaining a 27 percent stake in the franchise.
