James Harden justifies changing teams: 'Loyalty is Overrated'

The All-Star guard kept it straightforward by noting that everything is a "business" in the NBA.

James Harden is fully mindful of the outside noise after his yet another exit to join another team. But the 2018 league MVP is steadfast in reminding everyone that the NBA will always be about business.

Cleveland Cavaliers / Schedule

Following his home debut as the Cleveland Cavaliers secured a dominant 138-113 win over the Washington Wizards, Harden broke his silence on why many players today are changing teams in this era of the league.

"At the end of the day, we all look at it. It's basketball, and the whole 'loyalty' thing is overrated," he told reporters. "This is a business, and there’s a lot of money involved and a lot of decisions that have to be made. If a player isn’t producing, or if you don’t see him in the future, the front office has to do its job and keep their team on track. They might trade players to do what’s best for the organization. If a player isn’t happy and wants to be traded, that can be a problem.

"There are so many different dynamics that go into it. This is a business, and it’s not just the NBA—people in normal jobs face similar problems; they’re just not magnified."
