Danny Murphy highlights underrated part of Florian Wirtz's game after Liverpool beat Sunderland

Liverpool have secured a huge three points in their hunt for a top-four finish, with Florian Wirtz among those to impress against Sunderland.

The Reds went into the fixture knowing it was a great chance to close the gap on Manchester United and Chelsea.

In the end, a Virgil van Dijk header was enough to see Liverpool beat Sunderland and improve their chances of a Champions League finish.

Change my mind: Liverpool would be CRAZY to let Konate leave 😣

Murphy was quick to highlight an underrated part of the 22-year-old’s game, showing how he gets back to help out defensively and uses his physicality.

He said: “He’s brave, and of course, the more he plays and the more he’s loved by the fans, the more confident he gets.

“But this as well, the defensive work, winning the ball back, having the physicality to be able to, when you play as a 10, to get back and help the midfield lads, and there wasn’t too many of Liverpool’s good moves tonight that he wasn’t involved in.”

Florian Wirtz rates his performance for Liverpool vs Sunderland

Wirtz also received plaudits from Joe Cole on the night, who is in ‘love’ with the former Bayer Leverkusen man.

The player himself was, however, pretty reserved when assessing his own display live on TNT Sports in the aftermath of the clash.

Wirtz said: “It was okay. A few good moments, a few not so good moments. In the end I tried to have some chances to score, give good passes, but we won in the end and it doesn’t matter how I perform.

“Every good game gives you confidence when you get the ball and can do special things so it’s always good to have these games because you can’t impact every game.”
