Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella
Wroclaw, Poland – 05 28 2025: Marc Cucurella seen during UEFA Conference League 2025 final game between Real Betis Balompie and Chelsea FC
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has confirmed Marc Cucurella will miss the FA Cup tie against Hull City on Friday due to injury.
The Spain international suffered a blow earlier this week, in the Blues’ 2-2 draw against Leeds United.
It’s unclear how long the Chelsea player will be on the sidelines. AS have a report on the left-back’s latest setback.
The newspaper has found out from their own sources that initial diagnosis points to a hamstring injury.
According to AS, Cucurella will undergo an MRI scan on Thursday, and this is to understand the extent of the damage and the recovery time. The timeframe, as per the report, depends on the ‘size of the tear’.
Cucurella’s injury blow worries Chelsea
The defender joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in August 2022 and has been a regular, after overcoming initial difficulties.
Prior to joining the Blues, Manchester City were keen, and the left-back recently talked about his disappointment after that failed. He has already put this behind him and has established himself at Stamford Bridge.
The former Seagulls man has played 148 matches in all competitions for the Club World Cup winners, of which 35 are from this season.
Rosenior replaced him with Jorrel Hato against the Whites. The latter arrived at Stamford Bridge from Ajax last summer and has played 11 matches this season. The Dutchman is currently the only fit left-back at Chelsea.
Therefore, if the Spaniard is out for the long term, the Blues manager would have to rely upon Hato.
Chelsea star’s setback concerning for Spain
Cucurella’s impressive performances for the Premier League side has also helped him cement his place with the national team. Therefore, AS claim the Chelsea star’s ‘injury is concerning’ for La Roja.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente recently had to deal with Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino’s setback.
He could only hope Cucurella’s latest injury isn’t serious, and he recovers before La Roja face Argentina in Finalissima in March.
Should the Chelsea player miss out next month’s international break, De la Fuente could consider Real Madrid’s Álvaro Carreras or Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde.
