Report: Liverpool hierarchy's view on agreeing new contract with Ibrahima Konate shared

Ibrahima Konate’s Liverpool form has taken a huge upturn in the last few matches.

Arne Slot was unnecessarily harsh on the centre-back in the aftermath of the Sunderland win.

But it was clear that Konate just had one of his best games for the Reds in some time.

Change my mind: Liverpool would be CRAZY to let Konate leave 😣

Alan Shearer called the Liverpool defender outstanding and highlighted how he nullified Sunderland’s striker on the night.

While it’s great to see Konate back to his very best, questions over his long-term future remain.

Ibrahima Konate contract update

At present, the Frenchman is due to become a free agent at the end of June 2026.

Real Madrid are not interested in Konate after some suggestions that they could land the stopper for nothing.

But the fact remains that he is yet to sign a new deal, and clubs outside of England can agree a pre-contract with him right now if they wish to do so.

For Liverpool’s part, however, The Athletic have written on Thursday that: “The Anfield hierarchy haven’t given up hope of Konate signing an extension.

“They point to how Van Dijk and Salah didn’t agree fresh terms until April last season when their contracts were running down.”

Who was Liverpool’s best player in the excellent win over Sunderland, and why?

What a win!

How much does Ibrahima Konate earn at Liverpool

Despite being a nailed-on starter under Slot, Konate is not one of the highest earners at the club right now.

Mohamed Salah takes home the most of any Reds star following his extension last year (£400,000-a-week).

Virgil van Dijk was given a similarly lucrative deal in 2025, netting himself £350,000-a-week.

There are then reported to be a further 15 players who are earning more than Konate right now, as per Capology.

It’s said that the centre-back is taking home £70,000-a-week at Liverpool, which, apart from Curtis Jones (£50,000-a-week), makes him the lowest-earning semi-regular starter at the club.
