Jamie Carragher warns Chelsea signing that Stamford Bridge move was a'bad'mistake

Jamie Carragher has warned one of Chelsea’s summer signings that his move to Stamford Bridge was a “bad mistake”, claiming they have been swallowed up by the pressure of a big club.

Chelsea weren’t shy in the summer transfer window, making a total of 10 signings, including the short loan of Facundo Buonanotte, who is now at Leeds United.

One of the signings of the summer has been Joao Pedro. Many feared he might struggle at a bigger club after his move to Brighton, but he’s surpassed expectations and more than repaid his price tag.

He’s firmly established himself as the main striker at Chelsea, despite naturally being a number 10 or more of a false nine player.

But one thing that has helped his cause is Liam Delap‘s struggles. Just two goals in 23 appearances for Chelsea isn’t a great return, and his discipline has been an issue, too.

What is he talking about? 🤦‍♂️

Jamie Carragher thinks Liam Delap should have joined Everton instead of Chelsea

Speaking on The Overlap YouTube channel, Jamie Carragher shared his disappointment with Liam Delap’s performances at Chelsea since joining from Ipswich Town for £30 million.

“It was a bad move, honestly, to Chelsea.

“I just think young players, when they’re on a journey getting better, this idea that the jump for me from Ipswich to Chelsea is too big, you need something in the middle.

“Everton, playing centre forward for Everton every game and knowing even if you have a few bad games or you’re injured, you’re going to play again.”

Starting to think Jamie Carragher has a point…😬

Where does Liam Delap go from here at Chelsea?

Liam Delap is effectively playing for his Chelsea future over the next three months. Despite the club’s public backing, Emanuel Emegha joining will add further pressure on his shoulders.

The road ahead could lead to a summer exit, with Manchester United, Newcastle, and Everton all monitoring his situation closely.

But let’s not write him off just yet. His most immediate chance to impress comes this Friday in the FA Cup against his former club, Hull City. Rosenior, who managed the striker at the MKM Stadium, is expected to give him a rare start and is fully behind Delap still.
