Believe Memphis Academy considers consolidation amid closure concerns

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Believe Memphis Academy in South Memphis has not made a decision about its future as school leaders consider consolidation by helping students attend Grizzlies Prep, another charter school.

Believe Memphis has struggled academically and appears on the state’s list of low-performing schools. Parents and students have contacted Action News 5 about the potential closure.

One parent said the school has been significant in her family’s life.

“I feel like it’s shaped me as the person I am today. I had a lot of experiences here and Believe was a big milestone in my life. I bought my kids here, my son graduated last year and it’s a great school and so to see the school in the current situation it’s kind of bitter sweet but of course you know being a parent you would want the best option for them,” the parent said.

Parents have created a petition with more than 1,000 signatures against the consolidation plan.
