Alan Smith says Liverpool will have to be more consistent in order to finish in the Champions League places.
Speaking to Best Betting Sites UK, Smith warned that Arne Slot’s position as manager is likely to be put at risk if he can’t correct the Reds’ erratic performances between now and May:
“It just depends on how they go from here on in. He said himself, if they don’t reach the Champions League, it’s unacceptable.”

“So, if they didn’t, I think big questions would be asked. And if they continue to be up and down and conceding goals, then he might be in trouble.”
Slot has laid down the gauntlet
As Smith points out, the Dutchman has made it clear that failing to finish in the top 5 would be a failure for Liverpool.
Slot also mentioned that his team would have to get “close to perfection” in their remaining matches to achieve their aims domestically.
If his side can’t find some consistent form, though, there is next to no chance of finishing above the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, let alone Aston Villa.
How many points do Liverpool need for the Champions League?
After their big win against Sunderland on Wednesday evening, the Reds currently sit on 42 points with 12 games to go.
In years gone by, the 70-point mark was usually the guideline to finish in the top 4, although with fifth place likely to be enough now, that required total could be reduced ever so slightly.
Based on that logic, Slot’s men would need around 25 points. 8 wins and a draw from 12 fixtures is quite a lot to ask considering what we have seen from this team so far, but that is the level they will have to reach over the coming months.
