Chelsea and Leeds United have been told the Whites' second goal, despite the ball striking Jayden Bogle's arm in the build-up, was correct to stand.

Daniel Farke's side came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 away with Liam Rosenior's side away in west London. The valuable draw ended a barren run of seven consecutive defeats at Stamford Bridge for the club and moved Leeds one point closer to Premier League safety.

However, Chelsea head coach Rosenior was furious Noah Okafor's goal was allowed to stand after the ball struck Bogle's arm in the build-up. Bogle, who was one of Leeds' star men against the Club World Cup winners, accidentally touched the ball with his wrist as he ran towards the Blues' defence.

Undeterred by shouts of handball around Stamford Bridge, he kept on battling through challenges from Moises Caicedo and Josh Acheampong, before Lukas Nmecha prodded the ball for Okafor to pass into an empty net. Rosenior insisted the goal should have been disallowed, either on the pitch or by VAR.

However, ex-Premier League official Dermot Gallagher insisted the referee and officials within the VAR studio made the right decision. Gallagher, when asked if Leeds were lucky to get the decision, said: "Not really.

"If you look, it strikes him, there’s no doubt about that. Is it deliberate? No I don’t think so. Does it lead directly to a goal for him? Definitely, no! If you watch the sequence, three Chelsea players touch the ball in-between. It eventually goes in way after that incident. So it doesn’t fall into that criteria."

This verdict matches that of the Premier League match centre. Straight after the goal, a post on its X account said: "The referee’s call of goal to Leeds United was checked and confirmed by VAR – with there deemed to be no handball offence by Bogle in the build-up."

This will be of little comfort to Rosenior, who was furious with the decision after the game. The Chelsea head coach said: "The lad handballs it. It affects my players in that moment. They think it's a handball, they switch off, we don't clear the ball and they score. Then for 25 minutes it was wave after wave of attack. We have to make sure we take care of moments and be professional."

While Rosenior was unhappy with the result, Farke could not have been more proud of his players. After they secured the points without the absent Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Pascal Struijk and Anton Stach, the German praised his side for stealing a point from the jaws of defeat.

Farke said: "Great night for everyone involved with Leeds United. I'm very proud of my players and just have compliments for them. Chelsea in red hot form, just wins in the Premier League here and just wins in the Champions League.

"We have to come here as a newly promoted side, several key players out, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Anton Stach, Pascal Struijk, the backbone of the team. Some players' first starts after injury.

“The quality Chelsea has, if you go 2-0 down it can be a long night but we have this never-say-die attitude. We have this belief we can always come back."
