The Minnesota Timberwolves wrapped up the first half of the season with a dominant victory against the Portland Trail Blazers. It was their first meeting since former Minnesota guard, and current Portland head coach, Chauncey Billups was named as part of an illegal gambling ring.

Now the team will get additional rest with All-Star Weekend on deck. Anthony Edwards was questionable going into the contest, but wound up playing through an illness. When he returns to the Timberwolves for their next game, he will be joined by recently-healed swingman Terrence Shannon Jr.

Terrence Shannon Jr recalled by Minnesota Timberwolves

In late December Terrence Shannon Jr. was sidelined with a left foot abductor hallucis strain. He has been working his way back since, and announced his readiness with a monster G League showing on Wednesday night.

Shannon Jr. last played for the MN Timberwolves against the Denver Nuggets on Christmas Day. With the rehab process behind him, and a 36 point effort with Iowa to his credit, he’ll rejoin Chris Finch’s rotation after the break.

It has been a tough season for Shannon Jr. The Timberwolves envisioned him taking another step forward and that really hasn’t happened. He’s shooting just 39.5% (down from 48.2% last year) from the floor. His three-point success rate is up (40.5% from 35.5%), but the overall body of work leaves something to be desired.

How Finch decides to incorporate Shannon Jr. remains to be seen. Minnesota moved Rob Dillingham at the trade deadline, but he wasn’t commanding many minutes anyways. Ayo Donsunmo has been added as a key bench piece, and Mike Conley is expected back as well.

The Minnesota Timberwolves begin their second half on Friday February 20th against the Dallas Mavericks. They currently own a 34-22 record, good for fifth in the Western Conference.
