Kobe Bryant’s Upgraded Third Sneaker Is Finally Coming Out as a Low-Top for the First Time

As NBA All-Star Weekend descends on Los Angeles, it’s only fitting that one of the city’s biggest icons gets a special sneaker release. Along with a Protro reissue of Kobe Bryant’s Hollywood-inspired “3D” Nike Kobe 6, the sportswear brand is giving the late Los Angeles Lakers legend’s third signature sneaker a first-of-its-kind low-top makeover.

The Nike Kobe 3 Low Protro will debut Friday in a metallic Purple Venom/Black colorway alongside the rest of Nike Basketball’s Warning Label collection. While Bryant’s signature line is noteworthy for popularizing low-top basketball shoes, the shift wasn’t introduced until 2009’s Kobe 4, making the upcoming Kobe 3 Low the first time this variation of the model has arrived at retail.

Although Nike has not released official product specs for the Kobe 3 Low Protro, the pair appears to mirror the standard build Kobe 3 Protro, merely with a chopped-down ankle height. The low-top update not only provides a visual change, but results in a sleeker, less constricted fit for on-court play.

While the upcoming Warning Label release will be the initial chance to purchase the Kobe 3 Low Protro at retail, it’s not the first time fans have seen the updated sneaker. In August, Vanessa Bryant shared a first look at an all-white Halo colorway of the model, one which is expected to be released later this year. Halo styles, tributes to Bryant which are released on his birthday, Aug. 23, were introduced in 2023.

The low-top iteration of Bryant’s third sneaker has also been spotted on the NBA court. New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson, who’s been a torch bearer for the Bryant line in recent years, debuted a player-exclusive colorway of the model in January.

The Nike Kobe 3 Low Protro will be released Saturday at noon PT exclusively from Nike The Grove in Los Angeles for a retail price of $230. The style code for the Warning Label colorway is IU3313-500.
