“It means a lot”: Cam Thomas reflects on Doc Rivers confidence in him after Bucks win

Cam Thomas erupted for 34 points in his second outing with the Milwaukee Bucks, powering them to a 116-108 victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night. Rivers kept the ball in his hands late, and Thomas delivered.

“It means a lot just having him having that confidence in me in the second game. To go out there and do what I do and help the team win, that’s the main objective, go out there and get wins and see where it goes. Just happy to have his confidence in the second game, to trust me going down the stretch and finish. You know I want to keep on building that trust and keep it going from there,” said the newest member of the Bucks in his post-game availability.

After opening the first quarter 1 for 5, Thomas said he settled in by reading the defense and taking the shots that were available. He admitted he simply missed early attempts, but felt he responded well by accepting what the defense gave him and finishing plays.

Cam Thomas poured in 15 points in the third quarter and repeatedly attacked the rim to earn trips to the free throw line.

Jericho Sims also turned in a strong outing, and Thomas spoke about the connection they are building on the floor.

“He was amazing tonight… offensive rebounding, putbacks, lobs. I love playing with live threats,” Thomas said.

Doc Rivers likened Thomas to Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams, pointing to his ability to generate points quickly and change the game in short bursts.

“I’ve had Jamal Crawford. I had Lou Williams…And now, I have Cam Thomas,” remarked the Bucks head coach.

Kevin Porter Jr. recorded a triple double with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists, while Jericho Sims and Ousmane Dieng each scored 17 points, with Sims adding 11 rebounds. Milwaukee controlled the glass with a 47-30 advantage and moved to 22-30 on the season.

Bane scored eight straight late in the game, including a three that pulled Orlando even at 104, but Kyle Kuzma answered with a go ahead layup that put Milwaukee in front 108-106 for good.

Thomas signed with the Bucks on Sunday and logged 39 minutes in the win, knocking down four three pointers while shooting 12 of 20 from the field.
