Liverpool would be an ideal destination for Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries this summer, but Atlético Madrid could play a part.
That’s according to FC Inter News. The Italian outlet cover the defender today and provide their own information about his future.
Sport Witness have covered the Dutch defender extensively since the end of the January transfer window. Late in that, reports connected him with Liverpool in the wake of Jeremie Frimpong’s injury.
A report stated that Liverpool made a call for the right-back, although a deal never happened eventually. A later report claimed Arne Slot blocked the move, but left the door open to a summer revival.
Liverpool can return
FC Inter News now provide their take on the matter. They report that once the full-back has fully returned from injury, discussions about his future will begin.
His current deal includes a €25m release clause for foreign clubs. Those foreign clubs, including Liverpool, could ‘easily exercise’ that option.
According to their information, Arne Slot is a ‘huge fan’ of his compatriot and attempted to buy him in January. That’s strange given the previous reports Sport Witness have covered saying he blocked the move.
What they do add, though, is that Liverpool ‘would be a perfect fit’ for the player. He ‘aspires to a top-flight experience in England. Atlético Madrid are also in the picture, though. They’d see him as a replacement for Nahuel Molina.
World Cup showcase
There’s also the World Cup to consider. That could provide a showcase for the player and increase the number of suitors.
Inter are planning ahead and planning a ‘painless and calculated farewell’ if Dumfries doesn’t sing a new deal. The focus for now is getting him back on the pitch. They’ll focus on his future at a later date.
But they know there’s interest from Liverpool. And the Reds could easily convince the defender if they decide to pay his €25m release clause.
