Celtics rival gets All-Star break reinforcements ahead of playoffs

The Knicks added some wing depth as the league is about to head into its All-Star break. Jeremy Sochan and New York has agreed to a deal for the rest of the season once the former Spurs forward clears waivers, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Sochan, 22, was released by the Spurs earlier this week. The 6-foot-8 forward should provide the Knicks with some size as an athletic wing, though he didn’t play much in San Antonio this year. Sochan averaged 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in 22 games for the Spurs.

Sochan was picked ninth overall by the Spurs in the 2022 draft. He was an up-and-coming young player who was a full-time starter in his second NBA season. But the Spurs are contending this year, so Sochan fell out of the rotation.

The Knicks are 35-20 heading into the All-Star break for third in the East, just 0.5 games behind the Celtics in the standings. It’s clear this is an all-in type of season in New York, hoping to win its first NBA championship since 1973. The Knicks will hope Sochan can be a contributor for them at the wing spot.
