Tottenham have sacked Thomas Frank after eight months in charge, with the club 16th in the Premier League following a 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle.

The 52-year-old faced chants from fans calling for his dismissal and references to former manager Mauricio Pochettino. Last season, under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs finished 17th but won the Europa League.

Frank oversaw a brief improvement, including six wins in 16 league games and a narrow UEFA Super Cup loss to PSG, but inconsistent results left Spurs just five points above the relegation zone.

He did guide the team to the Champions League round of 16, but the board deemed the overall performance unacceptable. This marks the first managerial sacking of the post-Daniel Levy era at Spurs.

“The club has taken the decision to make a change in the Men’s Head Coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today,” read a club statement.

“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together. However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.

“Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”

Tottenham are planning their next move after sacking Frank. According to Telegraph Sport, former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane is not interested in becoming interim head coach at Tottenham. He would only consider leaving his current job at Ferencvaros for the permanent position at his former club.

Spurs are expected to begin talks with candidates on Thursday, aiming to have a new manager in place by next Monday when players return from a five-day break. Keane is interested in the permanent role, though his representatives have declined to comment.

Keane’s reluctance to leave a permanent role for an interim position means Tottenham may turn to former Liverpool assistant coach John Heitinga as a short-term option. Keane recently extended his contract at Ferencvaros, where he has performed impressively.
