Olympic Gold Medalist Overshadowed by NFL Boyfriend at Games

Being a power couple means supporting your partner as they try to reach their dreams, and that’s the case with one gold medal-winning snowboarder and her boyfriend, who’s a professional football player.

On Thursday, Feb. 12, Cleveland Browns defense end Myles Garrett was spotted back in the crowd to watch his girlfriend, U.S. snowboarding champion Chloe Kim, compete in the women’s halfpipe at the Winter Olympics.

Garrett always draws attention when he attends Kim’s events, and he’s well-known in the NFL world for being one of the top defensive players in the league. He’s a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, but this time, it wasn’t supposed to be about him.

Still, Garrett stole the spotlight with what he was wearing: a jacket with Kim’s face on it, according to a report from USA Today. It was a sweet gesture, but it definitely got all of the attention as his girlfriend went for three straight Olympic gold medals in the event.

In the event, Kim’s attempt for a third straight Olympic gold medal fell just short at the women’s halfpipe final at Livigno Snow Park. Kim led midway through the third and final run with a solid score of 88.00, but South Korea’s Gaon Choi crept up on her and earned a 90.25, taking the gold. Still, Kim’s medals, even this one not being gold, helped the USA inch closer to both Italy and Norway in the final Olympic medal count.

“I'm just going to do what I came here to do, and if they decide to give it to me, then awesome,” Kim said this week, according to NBC News.

She added, “But I'm really just grateful to be in the position where I’ve won all these events multiple times. The fact that I’m able to be here and riding and being confident is all I can ask for.”
