First round quarterback revivals have become a norm in the NFL the past several seasons and Mac Jones is hoping to be the latest reclamation.
After beginning his career with the New England Patriots which quickly spiraled after a successful rookie campaign followed up by an inconsistent one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jones has gotten things back on track under Kyle Shanahan.

When starting quarterback Brock Purdy missed eight games with a toe injury, Jones stepped in and led the 49ers to a 5-3 record while throwing 13 touchdowns.
Soon after the season’s completion the 49ers front office and staff made it clear that they weren’t ready to let Jones walk out of the building despite receiving trade interest.
It’s been a rewarding comeback for Jones who has finally felt stability and success in an offense. Most importantly he has restored his confidence in himself which he shared during an interview with The Insiders on NFL Network during Super Bowl week.
“Like, I learned so much this year, and I’ve, obviously, been coached by some great coaches and I know a lot and I’ve learned a lot,” Jones said. “But I really learned a lot this year. I know Sam (Darnold) probably felt the same way, and you can see it on the tape. …
“So it’s definitely motivating for me. I feel like I can get back and do that. And I have my swag back, and I feel like that’s important to me. And I can go out there and win games for whoever.”
Even if Jones were to sit behind Purdy again for the full 2026 season, he would become a free agent the following offseason where he will likely be in high demand amongst quarterback needy teams.
