Ian Rush was spotted alongside Sir Kenny Dalgish as they were photographed together celebrating a "great cause". Liverpool legend Ian Rush posed for a photo as he was dressed in formal black tie attire just months after suffering a health scare. The Reds' all-time leading goalscorer collapsed at his home in Chester after contracting super flu.
Rush, who is an ambassador for Liverpool FC, was admitted to the Countess of Chester hospital with breathing difficulties. The 64-year-old spent 48 hours in intensive care at the end of last year.
He told the ECHO's sister title the Mirror: “It was frightening, and I honestly thought I wasn’t going to survive. I got up around 2am because I was struggling to breathe and went downstairs to make myself a cup of tea."
On December 22, the Reds legend informed fans he was "feeling much better" as he acknowledged everyone that reached out to him.
Earlier this week, the former forward stepped out alongside Sir Kenny Dalglish at an event for the Marina Dalglish Appeal, which Rush described as a "great cause".
The charity, which was set-up by the Dalglish family in 2005, aims to improve cancer care on Merseyside and beyond.
Rush shared a photo of himself alongside Sir Kenny as the pair were dressed in black tie at a celebration event for the charity.
He captioned the photo: "Another fantastic year raising money for a great cause with @marinadalglishappeal @sirkennethdalglish."
Fans rushed to the comments as the iconic pair were pictured together. One follower said: "The best partnership ever!" while another said: "Two of my LFC heroes."
A third said: "What a great picture, not just two legends, but also two absolute gentlemen."
A fourth follower added: "Legends love this picture."
A favourite of the Kop, Rush's partnership with Sir Kenny Dalglish will go down as one of the finest Liverpool supporters have witnessed. Rush won a number of huge honours on Merseyside, after 660 appearances.
Rush kept his fans updated on his health following his worrying trip to the Countess of Chester hospital last year.
On December 22, he posted a photo holding a glass of prosecco and smiling. He captioned the post: "Feeling so much better now — thank you for all the wonderful messages and support from the entire LFC family and everyone who reached out. It truly meant the world to me.
"My heartfelt thanks to the incredible team at the Countess of Chester Hospital. The care, kindness, and dedication of the NHS staff were absolutely brilliant, and I’m deeply grateful for everything they did.
"A very special thank you to my partner, Carol, who was there for me every step of the way and helped me through it all — I couldn’t have done it without you. Feeling grateful, blessed, and thankful for all the love and support."
